About Our Program

You Quit, Two Quit, a program of the UNC Center for Maternal and Infant Health, was launched in July 2008. This program supports comprehensive tobacco use screening and cessation counseling for women of reproductive age, before, between and beyond pregnancy. The Women and Tobacco Coalition for Health (WATCH) serves as the Advisory Committee for this project.

The first three years of the program, we conducted perinatal tobacco cessation quality improvement initiatives with the Columbus, Richardson, Wilkes, and Davidson County Health Departments, along with the development of educational materials for pregnant and postpartum women and the providers who care for them. Initial funding came from the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund. A fourth year of this project was funded by the North Carolina Division of Public Health from 2011-2012.

The March of Dimes and the federal Office on Women’s Health have also supported this important program. Training and technical assistance has also been supported by the Duke Endowment – EPIC project. Since 2016 we have been funded through an appropriation from the NC General Assembly.
